An odd situation. The condition he has makes him completely unaware of anything happening, yet the family has to wait... endlessly it seems, for the deterioration to become fatal. A blessing and a curse. He doesn't suffer as 'he' has already gone, but those who watch have to wait for natural courses to remove the life from the body/shell left behind. It's heartbreaking...
